WHERE OUR TECHNIQUE WORKS BEST

We would like to share with you what we've learned from the parents who are using our technique. If your child is:

INFANT TO 3 YEARS (AN EXCELLENT TIME TO START)

If you are the parent of a newborn, this is a great time to start our technique, because the average child will watch 5000 hours of television by the time he enters first grade. If your child is in this age group, you should consider carefully how these 5000 hours will be spent. Obviously, those parents who use television primarily with our educational tapes have the best results. If your child is going to watch television, help make that experience useful and beneficial as well as entertaining.

4 YEARS OR OLDER AND IS ALREADY WATCHING TELEVISION

At this age many children have already developed strong preferences for certain shows. Videos such as those we make often have difficulty competing with the action and "glitz" of much of children's programming, particularly since our type of video is purposefully designed to have a more focused, slower paced approach to teaching. But if a parent is already reading to their child on a daily basis, the special books can be easily incorporated into their reading time. After 2 to 4 weeks of using the books (which contain the same information as the video), the video then becomes more interesting to the child.

NONVERBAL AND 4 YEARS OR OLDER (ANOTHER ADVANTAGE)

With regard to successful use of our technique, there seems to be an advantage to having an older child who is nonverbal, that is, with a vocabulary of less than 100 words. Because of the slower, more deliberate way in which we speak the words in the video, a non-verbal child will, in general, have a high interest level in the tapes and will repeatedly watch them over a longer period of time.

ADOLESCENTS AND ADULTS

Adolescents and adults who have a very limited reading vocabulary, i.e. less than 100 words, and who want to learn to read can also benefit from our technique. Because they are truly interested in learning to read, they will work with the materials consistently.
